Real Mom Talk: Mom Style [GIVEAWAY]

I have to be honest here. Ever since becoming a mom, my style has changed. Bye bye to cut-off short shorts, mini skirts, open back crop tops, side boob (nonexistent) exposing camis, and etc. But that doesn’t necessarily mean my style has to suffer, I just modify it to fit this stage of my life – being a mom. I noticed that I started gravitating towards more of “mom clothes”, a little more  covered up, a bit more practical, and a lot more comfortable. Ain’t nobody want to see me flashing my ta-tas bending down to pick Em up! 😛 However, mom style can be cute and appealing too, like this floral wrap dress from PinkBlush! I love the boho style of this dress with right amount of flare but still appropriate for a mom like me. The best part of this dress is that it can also be worn as a maternity dress! I’ll be sure to rock this piece when we are pregnant with a second baby (whenever that’ll be!) – it’s so comfy!

One Year Postpartum Update

Hooray! We survived the first year and kept our little babe happy and healthy! To be honest though, first year literally flew by. I feel like it wasn’t too long ago when I could feel her tiny feet kicking in my belly, now she is taking steps with those tiny feet!

At the end of 9 months she started crawling on her hands and knees then she was off! I think she was waiting for this discovery, because once she found out how to crawl, she moved around the entire house on her hands and knees in warp speed! By 10.5 months old, she was pulling herself up on everything she could get her little hands on – sofa, consoles, stairs, chairs etc. One of her favorite activities is pulling out the drawers and taking everything out. More work for mama to clean after her mess… LOL. The first time she stood for a long time unsupported was around when Emma was 11 months old. She pulled out a drawer from her dresser and pulled herself up. She dug around and found something she liked then magically started standing on her own with the object she pulled out of the drawer in her hands. From then on, she started standing on her own longer and longer, and now she is standing and taking a couple of steps without any support. I think she’s a very cautious baby though. She’s scared to let go of our hands and walk freely. I’m not in a hurry for her to walk anyway because that means we have to chase her 24/7. Haha.

At one year old, she has 6 teeth visible, her 4th tooth at the bottom came out at 10 months and by 10.5 months, she had two top teeth. We now see another set of two coming out from the top, but they have not broken through yet. She is also  more verbal now, repeating a lot of things we say and making all sorts of different sounds. She would mimic animal sounds and lets us know when she is fascinated about something by making “OOohhH” sounds. It is the cutest thing! It’s super darling to see her very animated, copying everything we do – she does this one thing where she puts her hands on her head and says “WOW”, and she knows when she is being cute! She would scrunch her nose and put on the biggest grin while tilting her head to one side. I mean, come on! You can get away with ANYTHING with that face! We are so in trouble!!

As for solids, we are now off of formula altogether. She kind of started weaning herself off a week before she turned one. She’d eat more table food and less formula. Once she turned one, I transitioned off of formula to whole milk. We still give her whole milk in a bottle when she wakes up and before she goes to bed – but no more bottle feeding during the day! Man, it feels good not having to do that and lugging around bottles and water! Now we gotta tackle getting rid of bottles. I tried giving her morning milk in a sippy cup, but she didn’t drink any! Babies are strange, she does fine with water in a sippy cup, but not milk. We shall see how this transition goes.. as always, I’m mostly going with the flow.

She was saying, “oooooh!”

For me, one year postpartum seems surreal. I just cannot believe my baby is one and it’s been a full year since I gave birth! I definitely feel more like a seasoned mama, haha. I’m not as anxious or paranoid about raising a baby. I definitely feel more comfortable in my parenting style and I no longer freak out if I forget to pack something in her diaper bag. 😉 Now only if I can lose the last stubborn 10 lbs of preggo weight…I’ll be golden! But I really can’t complain since I haven’t done much to help lose the weight. I shall report back once I have done so. 😉 All in all, the past year was an amazing experience for me, I grew as a mother which in turn made me grow as a person. Believe it or not, I learned more about motherhood through Emma than anything I’ve read in books or the internet. She helped me shape into the mother I am today and my only hope is that Emma will always be proud to have me as her mother.

The monthly postpartum update will end here, but stay tuned for periodic toddler updates!

Nine Months Postpartum Update

Hello world! I know it’s been complete radio silence from me, and I’m embarrassed to say I have not kept up with the blog in a long time. But I have a good excuse. We bought a house and moved! I have a separate post lined up on this big milestone of ours, so please stay tuned! Anyway, it’s been super hectic, moving and getting settled into our new house. On top of that, I had to travel for work – first travel since giving birth! This will also be a separate post. I tell ya, I have all these posts lined up, I just need to polish them and post. 😉 So you see? It’s been quite busy in our household!

Alright, so onto our 9 months postpartum update (I had already written this when she was actually 9 months old, so the timing is kind of off) –

Oh my goodness, is she really turning one in three months? Cue the anxiety overload of planning her first birthday/돌. 😛 Weighing in at 20 lbs at her nine months checkup, she is 27.5 inches tall with her head circumference still at 94th percentile. Now at nine and a half months old, she is a little firecracker! Miss wannabe independent is on the go! She can’t yet walk unsupported, but she can stand for several seconds on her own AND get this, SHE TOOK THREE STEPS on July 19! (Video here). We were all in awe. All this little pumpkin wants to do is walk around the entire house. She still isn’t a fan of tummy time so she is late to the crawling game. She isn’t quite crawling on her hands and knees yet. She gets her little tooshy up in the air and gets on her knees; however, she has not mastered the coordination of moving forward. She does army crawl, but of course, gets super frustrated because she’d rather walk. She is a curious cookie too, she likes to open up all of the cabinets she can get her little hands on. We need to baby-proof our house pronto!

She now has three teeth! The bottom two which sprouted when she turned 6 months old, has a little neighbor 🙂 The third bottom tooth (left of her front two teeth) has sprouted at 9 months but is not yet fully out. The third tooth took a lot longer to poke through her gum than the first two. Thankfully, she didn’t teethe as bad as when her first two bottom teeth sprouted, but she was a bit cranky for a day when her third tooth was starting to erupt. Her top two teeth are still MIA.

“photoshoots are tiring, let me lie down”

I think the most exciting thing about Em at this age is that she is so animated now! And she is starting to pick up everything and learn what certain gestures mean. She gives kisses whenever we say  kiss, “bbo bbo”/”뽀뽀” in Korean; waves bye and hi; gives high five; claps; dances to music and says “mama/umma/dada/appa (Korean for dad)”! And let me say it for the record, her first word was “umma”/”엄마” which is mom in Korean. It is beautifully captured here in this video. 🙂 There’s never a dull moment with her, she is always doing something new trying to explore everything in her line of sight!

As for me, not much has changed since the 6 months postpartum update. Maybe at my next postpartum update, I have something exciting about myself to talk about… Whatever that may be. So until then.. ta-ta~

Six Months Postpartum Update

IMG_8302

Hooray! We kept her alive for 6 months! ;D I’m joking, she has been an absolute joy, and we cannot believe she is already 6 months old! I swear I’ll be saying that every time she gets older. Little miss Emma has been growing like crazy! At 6 months, she is checking in at 17 lbs 12.5 oz (81st percentile), 26.7 inches (81st percentile) tall with a head size in the 94th percentile, no surprise there [points at Steve]. And wait for it… she has teeth!! She JUST sprouted bottom two teeth shortly after she turned 6 months old. I can’t wait until they fully sprout, it’s going to be the cutest thing ever! What other exciting news do we have? She is still sleeping through the night, still clocking in those glorious 12 straight hours of beauty rest. And she started solids! Em is such a big girl now! Her first big girl food was rice cereal. She loved it and did great with the spoon and all, but she got super constipated. [Warning – TMI] She didn’t have a single bowel movement for 4 days straight which is abnormal for her since she poos everyday, and of course with her malrotation, I got super worried when she didn’t have regular bowel movements. She was finally able to release some on her 5th day of no stool, and I had to help her by pulling it out – yes, I pulled her poop out. Welcome to motherhood. Since then, we said goodbye to rice cereal. Instead, we fed her pureed pears, carrots, prunes, and sweet potatoes thus far. She loved everything and her bowel movements are somewhat back to normal.

In terms of her development, she is definitely more aware of her surroundings. She is super alert ALL the time and LOVES to interact. She loves when we sing and dance and make silly noises. Her favorite song is ‘Old McDonald Had a Farm’, the animal noises totally get to her [Em’s animal noise vid]. She is constantly smiling and laughing, it just melts our hearts! She isn’t rolling over as much as we’d like… she surprises us here and there by rolling from her back to her tummy, but she’d rather sit or stand. She was a fast sitter as she sat unassisted for the first time at a little over 3 months old – of course it didn’t last more than 3o seconds. She can now sit unassisted for quite a while and whenever she can stand (supported) she’ll try everything in her power to do so LOL!

Not all photo sessions are glamorous… LOL

As for me, ever since Emma started sleeping through the night, I’m no longer a walking zombie. I’m more productive at work, and my brain is functioning better with more sleep. I feel like I’m beginning to get my old self back. I still have about 10 lbs of pregnancy weight to lose, and I have to admit, I haven’t really been trying to shed the weight..BUT SERIOUSLY THOUGH, I will be working out and getting back to pre-pregnancy body…eventually. Aside from still having some flabby skin, my hair started falling out shortly after Em turned 3 months old. You all know I already don’t have a lot of hair to begin with, so when I started losing chunks of hair in the shower, I completely freaked out. You can clearly see some bald spots and little baby hair growing out from them… I went back to taking prenatal vitamins again hoping that will help with my hair loss problem. Fingers crossed that I won’t go completely bald.

I have to say, having a 6 month old is SO much easier and so much more fun! She is a little person with her own personality, and we cannot wait until she starts walking and talking!!
