Last Pregnancy Update: 34 – 39 Weeks

*Long post! Obviously I’m no longer pregnant and this post is way overdue, but it’s been crazy hectic since Emma was born! Sorry for the late post, but better late than never! I have a few more posts to upload including Emma’s birth story, so stay tuned!*

34-38collage

34 Weeks

Baby’s size: A butternut squash!

Baby’s movement: My little squirmer is squirming all over the place! And she kicks me so hard sometimes I actually yelp! This may be a bit TMI, but she even moves when I’m on the toilet. I love her movements and all, but it’s weird when she moves when I’m doing my business.. LOL!

Total weight gain: 30 lbs.

Pregnancy symptoms: Oh.My.Lord. I had the most uncomfortable and painful sharp pains on the back of my left leg! Whenever I moved in a certain position or put pressure on my left leg in a certain way, this sharp pain would shoot down my the back of my leg. It came out of nowhere too! The doctor said it’s most likely sciatica which is common in third trimester due to growing uterus pushing on your nerves. Unfortunately, there’s not too much I can do to remedy this unless it gets unmanageable 😦

Food love: Still on that toast with almond butter and strawberry jam kick for breakfast! Oh, and I had the biggest craving for an authentic burrito. Steve and I found this authentic Mexican place inside a Mexican grocery store and their food was amazing! It may even beat our favorite Mexican place in Chicago!

Food hate: As it has been since I don’t know how long, I have no food aversions! I did make egg salad sandwich for Steve for lunch, and I actually ate it myself for my lunch this week. I guess hard-boiled eggs are beginning to become tolerable.

Sleep: Scratch what I said about being tired and going to bed early. It doesn’t matter if I do, I still have to wake up multiple times a night to go to the bathroom..

Currently living in: Maternity clothes and dresses!

3 pros of this week: [1] Learning a lot about labor and delivery from the 2 day labor and birth class we attended! I’ve read about labor and delivery from books as well, but putting that to practice such as breathing exercises, laboring and pushing positions and massages were definitely helpful! Highly recommend attending these classes provided in your community! We also learned a lot about pain medications and epidural. I was pro epidural, and I still am, but I have decided that I’m going to try to hold out as long as possible before getting the epidural. I want to be able to have full control of my body which is the main reason for possibly enduring without epidural. All I know is that I have a set birth plan I would like to stick to, but I’m also going in with an open mind that anything can happen. We are just hoping for a healthy delivery of Emma without any complications for both me and the baby. [2] Having Steve’s siblings visit and doing a little get-together with a few people for Steve’s upcoming birthday! [3] Completing the nursery! We have one more picture to hang, but we are finished!! And I’m in love, so perfect for our little girl ❤

3 cons of this week: [1] Feeling super heavy, it’s getting really hard to move about and walk for a long time. [2] Worrying about mild low abdominal cramps I’m having on and off. They aren’t regular contractions, but it still makes me worry that I may be going into labor early. [3] Missing my best friend’s bachelorette weekend in NYC. I was having a major FOMO! Wish I could’ve been there!

Looking forward to: Hubby’s birthday!!

35 Weeks

Baby’s size: A honeydew!

Baby’s movement: Despite the fact that she is running out of room, her kicks are strong and painful at times! I have to catch my breath whenever she does her karate kicks on my ribs. The other night, Steve and I felt her tiny little foot protruding out on my tummy! We can also make out her body inside the womb, it is the strangest thing!

Total weight gain: 30 lbs.

Pregnancy symptoms: Okay, so I take back raving about having a smooth pregnancy. I am definitely feeling the wrath of pregnancy now.. LOL. Third trimester has to be the toughest for me, especially almost at the finish line. In addition to feeling like a whale with limited mobility, these false contractions can get unmanageable sometimes most of the time. The other night, I woke up with cramps in my low abdomen, and I had a brief freak out moment thinking I’m going into labor. Steve woke up immediately trying to get me to relax. Thankfully, they were irregular and went away after 30 minutes so or. I know my body is getting ready for the real thing though, I can feel that my pelvis has spread, and the pelvic pain is most painful when I switch positions in bed or trying to get out of bed. Sometimes I can even hear my pelvic bone pop, it doesn’t hurt but sounds really gross. I can totally relate to why other moms-to-be want the baby out when getting closer to their due date. I am feeling very unpleasant at 35 weeks.

Food love: I have moved away from my love for toasts and on to cereal. Cereal is my life right now. On a slightly different note, I seriously have been eating whatever my little heart desires all throughout this pregnancy. I will spare you of my feast on Sunday because it ain’t pretty, but let me just say that being able to eat whatever and whenever was amazing (I’m surprised I didn’t gain more weight)! As I near the end of my pregnancy, I am reminded that I should be more conscious of my food choices and how much I intake in order to have a smoother transition back to my pre-pregnancy diet. The excuse of, “I’m pregnant” won’t fly anymore 😛 BUT I do have a list of foods I couldn’t eat during my pregnancy which I am SO excited to be able to eat again, starting with a really good cold deli sandwich!

Food hate: Nothing much!

Sleep: Oh sleep.. I yearn for a good night sleep where I don’t have to wake up at all in the middle of the night. Even if I purposely don’t drink anything two to three hours prior to my bedtime, I’m still waking up in the middle of the night to empty my bladder..not just once, but at least three times!

Currently living in: Maternity clothes and dresses!

3 pros of this week: [1] Celebrating hubby’s birthday on Weds! [2] Realizing it’s September and Emma will be here before we know it! [3] Being able to make out Emma’s little foot inside my tummy! Steve and I have fun trying to figure out where Emma’s body parts are in my tummy, whenever she has her slow kicks, we can actually feel her little foot!

3 cons of this week: [1] Going to the gym and realizing the highest speed I can go on the treadmill is 1.7 mph. [2] Excruciating pelvic pains! [3] Being tired during the day due to disturbance of sleep.

Looking forward to: My parents’ visit this coming weekend. Mostly because my mom is going to cook all the delicious Korean food. 😀

36 Weeks

Baby’s size: Head of romaine lettuce!

Baby’s movement: This little babe is doing gymnastics or something in the tight space! I can feel her tiny foot on my side, and it sometimes hurts!

Total weight gain: 35 lbs – crazy how I’ve gained 5 lbs in 1 week!! The doctor isn’t worried and haven’t mentioned anything about my weight gain. I figure it’s just water retention since I’ve been swelling a lot lately.

Pregnancy symptoms: Oh man, where do I start? I am constantly having Braxton Hicks contractions along with mild cramping in my lower abdomen, it’s getting more frequent and definitely not fun. I also thought I was losing small chunks of mucus plug here and there..they weren’t bloody or brown in color which I know means you have lost all of your mucus plug, they were just clear snot looking glob, TMI I know. I read that some women lose it little by little but when I asked the doctor about it this week, she said it’s most likely not the mucus plug, just increase in discharge. Blech. And lastly, my FAVORITE so far (NOT!), my feet and hands started to swell!!!! The other day, my right ankle disappeared and I legitimately had a cankle. Ugh. And I’m sad to report that I had to take off my engagement and wedding rings, because my hands and fingers are so swollen. Am I going to be able to put them back on?! 😦

Food love: My parents visited for Labor Day weekend, and my mom stocked my fridge with lots of Korean food. I’ve been loving that lately! Oh, and I finally got Maryland Blue Crabs smothered in Old Bay seasoning for the Summer. It’s not Summer with them crabs, and I’m so glad my parents decided to bring me some!!

Food hate: Nothing much!

Sleep: Same old, same old. Getting up multiple times a night to go to the bathroom and having trouble tossing and turning with pelvic pains.. 😦

Currently living in: Maternity clothes and dresses!

3 pros of this week: [1] Having my parents visit. [2] Checking out some potential houses to purchase. [3] My mom stocking our fridge 🙂

3 cons of this week: [1] Gaining so much weight in a short period of time! What is going on? [2] Feeling so uncomfortable in general. [3] Getting super nervous about the labor..

Looking forward to: This past weekend was the last of people visiting us, and I’m looking forward to spending time with just Steve preparing for the arrival of Emma in the next few weeks! Having friends and family visit is fun, but I’m ready to relax and spend the next couple of weeks physically, mentally, and emotionally preparing for the three of us.

37 Weeks

Baby’s size: A winter melon.

Baby’s movement: Same as usual, moving about throughout the day!

Total weight gain: 37 lbs!

Pregnancy symptoms: The swelling of my feet, ankles, legs, hands and face is not easing up for this mama! There are days when the swelling is a bit better, and walking seems to help it go down in my feet and ankles. Other than that, normal pelvic pressure, constant Braxton Hicks contractions. The other day, I had severe period like cramping to the point where I couldn’t really walk. I started to time it to see if they were regular, but they weren’t and went away after a while. And to make it more interesting this week (LOL), on Monday night, I thought my water broke. It wasn’t a gush of water like you see in the movies, it trickled out, but enough to soak my underwear. We called the hospital to explain what had happened since I tested positive for GBS and my instructions are that I go to the hospital once my water breaks or I’m in early labor to start antibiotics. After explaining to the nurse what had happened, she told me to come in to get evaluated. We grabbed our hospital bag and headed to the hospital. I got hooked up to the contractions and fetal movement monitors and got swab test done to see if it indeed was amniotic fluid leaking. Turns out, it was a false alarm. What it seemed like amniotic fluid was actually just watery discharge. It was a practice run! I was surprised how calm I was!! I think Steve was more antsy than I was!

Food love: Italian ice!

Food hate: Nothing much!

Sleep: Same old, not really sleeping well due to having to use the bathroom multiple times a night, and every time I do, I wake up with uncomfortable Braxton Hicks contractions, and forget about changing positions, that KILLS my pelvic area.

Currently living in: Full on maternity clothes.

3 pros of this week: [1] Having a blast at Chicago Bears game meet-up and meeting new people! [2] Finding out how calm I can be when it’s go-time even though it was a false alarm. [3] Venturing out of our comfort zone to meet new people in the area! I’ve reached out to my sorority connections to see if there were any sisters in the area from Duke and UNC, and I’m really glad I did, because I was connected to a UNC alum who then invited us to her cookout on Friday. We met a lot of new people and we are excited to get together again!

3 cons of this week: [1] Feeling like I have a million things to do at work..wait, I actually do! LOL [2] Being even more anxious about not knowing if I’m in labor or not. [3] Finding out I’m GBS positive, I know it’s not a big deal and it’s common, but it still bothers me.

Looking forward to: Final two weeks of the pregnancy! I’m almost there!!

38 Weeks

Baby’s size: A pumpkin!

Baby’s movement: My little squirmer moves all day long, makes me think that she’s not really engaged to come out LOL.

Total weight gain: 35 lbs – I’m beginning to lose weight.. I read that it happens towards the end of the pregnancy. Hope this means she’s ready to come out!

Pregnancy symptoms: So end of 37 weeks/beginning of my 38 weeks, I woke up in the middle of the night with this excruciating pain in my lower abdomen. It was like period cramps x 1000, I felt like someone was stabbing me! It started Friday night, around 1:30 AM when I woke up and I literally could not move due to the pain. The pain was accompanied by lower back aches and tightening of my uterus. I thought I was in labor, I started timing them! The symptoms continued on and off three times within 3 hours or so, but the cramping pain tapered off. Then the next day, I didn’t feel any cramping or Braxton Hicks during the day until the night time. I started feeling the same thing, it would start with lower back aches which wrapped around to the front in my lower abdomen with period like cramps. It wasn’t as painful as Friday night’s pain though, but enough for me to wake up again on Saturday night when sleeping. I think Emma is getting ready to come out! I also think I lost my mucous plug.. I’m not 100% sure, but I’m just waiting at this point.

Food love: Nothing.

Food hate: Nothing.

Sleep: The word sleep is not in my dictionary! Not only do I wake up from having to use the bathroom, I also wake up from false contractions which I need to walk it off before going back to bed.. I have permanent dark circles under my eyes.

Currently living in: Full on maternity clothes.

3 pros of this week: [1] Getting through all the big tasks at work before going on my maternity leave! [2] My department throwing me a Skype baby shower! They sent presents, and I had to hold off on opening them until the shower. So thankful for my work family!  [3] Autumn weather! It’s been raining here all week, but the temperature has finally dropped to 70’s and it’s amazing!!

3 cons of this week: [1] Not knowing if I’m in real labor or if it’s another false labor. It is very frustrating! I wish I get a sure tell sign like my water breaking. [2] Finding out that my legs are so swollen that my Hunter boots are too tight for me to wear! I’m hoping this is not a permanent thing. [3] Annoyed that my manicure is already chipping and it hasn’t even been a week. Definitely not going back to the same nail salon.

Looking forward to: Emma’s arrival – what else? LOL. This mama is getting super anxious!!

39 Weeks/My Pregnancy Experience

Emma arrived at the end of my 39th week. She almost made it to her due date, October 3rd, but this little babe decided to come the day before 🙂 At my 39th week appointment on Sep 29th, the doctor checked my cervix, I was about 3 cm dilated, 50% effaced and the baby was at station -2, she also scraped my membrane to get things moving since I was having painful false contractions. The doctor said she wouldn’t be surprised if I go into labor any day now. Sure enough, I went into early labor the next day after the appointment. I am finally able to finish this post 1 month postpartum, and I wanted to end my pregnancy update with my overall pregnancy experience. From my previous posts on announcing the pregnancy and surprising my husband about the pregnancy, I have been eager to have a baby and experience the beauty of being pregnant. I was that creepy girl envious of pregnant women subconsciously rubbing their belly waiting in line at the grocery store. When I found out I was pregnant, I couldn’t wait to experience everything that came with the pregnancy, even the morning sickness (I never fully experienced morning sickness, not vomiting, just nausea in the beginning of my pregnancy). I read a couple of pregnancy books, and followed a few apps on my phone on weekly pregnancy expectations. I would read ahead just because I couldn’t wait to find out what changes I will face and how the baby will be growing in the upcoming weeks. Looking back on my pregnancy, I loved every second of being pregnant. Yes, even though the last few weeks of false contractions and being severely uncomfortable were not my cup of tea, I wouldn’t mind going through it all again. One month postpartum, I really do miss being pregnant, feeling Emma inside my belly and being anxious about what it would be like to finally meet her in person. Not only was it a physical change in my body, but there was an emotional and mental shift within myself. I was fortunate to have an easy/healthy pregnancy, and I truly enjoyed the last 10 months of my life growing our little princess ❤

Pregnancy Update: 30 – 33 Weeks

30-33

30 Weeks

Baby’s size: A cucumber!

Baby’s movement: She still kicks and jabs, but I think she is running out of room because most of the time her movements are subtle, almost like she’s rolling around. It makes my tummy shake and vibrate.

Total weight gain: 24 lbs!

Pregnancy symptoms: Pelvic pains whenever I get in and out of bed and switch positions when sleeping; waking up multiple times a night to use the bathroom; Braxton Hicks.

Food love: It’s no surprise I have the weirdest cravings from time to time. This week, I was at Homegoods to find random things for Emma’s nursery.. didn’t find anything but walked out with yogurt covered pretzels, jalapano potato chips and peach jelly candy. Peach jelly looked good until I put one in my mouth, I immediately regretted buying it. LOL.

Food hate: Nada!

Sleep: Not great 😦

Currently living in: Maternity clothes!

3 pros of this week: [1] Finalizing our trip to SF in December for my best friend’s wedding! We are all set to go! I know it’s still 5 months away, but we are super excited! Emma’s first vacation! [2] Decorating our place, it’s slowly coming together – some pictures are finally up on the wall! [3] Hiking and finding a really good Mediterranean restaurant!

Cons of this week: Having a super busy work week – so much to do, so little time… Story of my life.

Looking forward to: Seeing our friends from DC next weekend! Our very first visitors 🙂

Aug 2, 2015 - Emma's nursery is almost ready!

Aug 2, 2015 – Emma’s nursery is slowly coming together!

31 Weeks

Baby’s size: A pineapple!

Baby’s movement: Constant!!

Total weight gain: 26 lbs!!

Pregnancy symptoms: Per usual – pelvic pressure; Braxton Hicks; slow movements; lack of sleep; frequent urination

Food love: I love my Summer melons! We bought three watermelons and two huge canary cantaloupes from the farmer’s market, and I’ve been having them every single day!

Food hate: Nothing much!

Sleep: Unfortunately, my granny bedtime has extended to midnight bedtime despite the fact that my eyes magically open before 7 AM every morning.

Currently living in: Forget dressing cute, let me be comfy with my burgeoning belly!

3 pros of this week: [1] Finding this awesome farmer’s market in Raleigh! There are several in our area, and we’ve been meaning to check them out. We are so glad we found the one in Raleigh which is HUGE! And they are open 7 days a week! Steve made the cutest comment when we were browsing the market – “can’t wait until Emma comes, so we can stroll through with her in her stroller!” Daddy is ready to explore the world with the little one! 🙂 [2] Welcoming our first visitors from DC! [3] Feeling Emma’s hiccups for the very first time! I was laying down in bed getting ready to sleep, and I started feeling this steady and rhythmic thumps in my lower stomach! It went on for about one to two minutes and Emma was moving around simultaneously then the thumps stopped. I’ve only read about feeling the fetus’ hiccups, it was the cutest thing to actually experience it!!

3 cons of this week: Nothing this week! It’s been a blissful one 🙂

Looking forward to: Finishing the nursery! It’s almost there!!

32 Weeks

Baby’s size: A squash!

Baby’s movement: My little squirm-er is always moving about in my belly!

Total weight gain: 28 lbs!

Pregnancy symptoms: Other than the usual, I’m starting to feel really tired as I did in my first trimester.

Food love: Nothing new!

Food hate: Nothing new!

Sleep: Lack of energy totally hit me this week, and I’m sleeping a lot more than before! I’ve been falling asleep on the sofa after dinner and going to bed super early. I think I’m averaging 8-9 hours of sleep this week!

Currently living in: Maternity/shift dresses.

3 pros of this week: [1] Hearing Emma’s heartbeat at the doctor’s. [2] Realizing Emma actually responses when I touch my belly or talk to her. [3] Feeling Emma’s constant hiccups! I know I mentioned this before, but this week’s been nonstop hiccups for Emma, and it is THE cutest thing!! It melts my heart.

Cons of this week: I don’t have much cons this week other than the fact that this week flew by so fast.. In fact, I feel like time is flying by faster now. It also doesn’t help that my work is getting super hectic which makes me nervous for my projects when I go on my maternity leave.. Organizing my work life is getting harder lately.

Looking forward to: Our babymoon and taking maternity pictures!

33 Weeks

Baby’s size: A Durian!

Baby’s movement: Constant! It’s not as quick as her previous movements, but she is definitely moving about in there, poking and stretching her legs!

Total weight gain: 29 lbs! Whoa baby.

Pregnancy symptoms: The usual – pelvic pressure; waddling; harder to move quickly; occasional leg cramps; lack of energy.

Food love: Toast with almond butter and strawberry jam! It’s been my go-to breakfast this entire week. Also, my wonderful work sent me brownies all the way from Baltimore! Emma and I have been indulging in deliciousness!

Food hate: Nothing new!

Sleep: I’ve been sleeping better, a good 7 to 8 hours a night. I still wake up at least once every night to use the bathroom, but other than that, sleep has been good!

Currently living in: Maternity/shift dresses.

4 pros of this week: [1] Taking a relaxing weekend trip to the beach for our babymoon. [2] Taking maternity photos! [3] Installing the car seat in our car! Emma’s seat is permanently ready now 🙂 [4] One more this week – I got a promotion at work! Woo hoo!! Perfect ending to the week.

3 cons of this week: [1] Having pregnancy brain, it’s real! [2] I woke up with mild cramps in my lower tummy which gave me the biggest anxiety thinking I was having real contractions… I feel like I need to mentally prepare myself for the real ones to come in 6 weeks! [3] Wanting to go for a good run but my body won’t let me.. 😦

Looking forward to: Labor and Birth class this weekend.

Maternity Photos and Babymoon

Whoever thought of babymoon should be awarded! The purpose of a babymoon is to spend quality time with your partner to relax before the baby arrives. And Steve and I did just that for our babymoon because our life as Maddie and Steve will be long gone come Emma’s arrival!

We decided to do a weekend trip to Wilmington, NC for our babymoon. It was our first time in Wilmington and Wrightsville beach, and we fell in love! It was super relaxing to spend the weekend lounging at the beach, splashing in the water, and talking about us and our near future with Emma. A change of scene from our every day life was definitely needed, and we were able to really connect as a couple. It’s been nonstop on the go for us, so having this quality time before the baby’s arrival was essential. We also ate some really good foods in Wilmington, and that’s always a plus! 🙂

While we were at the beach, we decided to take advantage of the scenery and shoot my maternity photos. I’ve been contemplating a lot on how I wanted the maternity photos to look like… I wanted to be comfortable in my new body and embrace my belly because I think pregnancy is one of the beautiful looks for a woman. I definitely wanted to show my bare belly and at the same time reflect my own personal style. I made a flower crown with my favorite flower, baby’s breath and chose a few different outfits. Although we didn’t hire a professional photographer and did a DIY photo shoot, it turned out amazing! Steve did a great job capturing the style I was envisioning – his photography skill is improving every day, so talented! Here are my favorite photos from the shoot. I was just starting my 33 weeks. Enjoy!

Pregnancy Update : 26 – 29 Weeks

26-29_collage

26 Weeks

Baby’s size: A head of lettuce!

Baby’s movement: All the time! I woke up the other day to one of her kicks.. I hope this means she’s going to be a calm baby when she is born.. 😉

Total weight gain: 19 lbs, lost a pound from last week.

Pregnancy symptoms: I am having major pelvic pressure. Sometimes it feels like she is moving down the birth canal and about to pop out! The doctor says it’s normal with baby’s growth. It’s definitely not pleasant especially when it wakes me up in the middle of the night. Additionally, my calves cramp almost every single night which also wakes me up.. Oh the glory of 2nd trimester!

Food love: I have discovered the goodness of donuts! Pre-pregnancy, I actually hated donuts. But this week, I saw a picture of Krispy Kreme donuts on Instagram, and I just had to have them. I think this was the first immediate grocery run for my cravings since becoming pregnant. Steve and I drove to a local grocery store just to buy Krispy Kreme donuts, and THEY WERE A GAME CHANGER! It was also my first time having Krispy Kreme donuts. It’s a dangerous road I’m going down here… We bought a box of donuts, and I am trying to be good limiting myself to one per day for breakfast until it runs out.

Food hate: Nothing new!

Sleep: Sleep has been the same, not great.

Currently living in: Maternity clothes! People weren’t kidding when they told me maternity clothes will change your life. They are SO comfortable!! Why was I being so stubborn before?

3 pros of this week: [1] Liking Duke Hospital a lot more than Johns Hopkins Hospital! [2] Hearing Emma’s heartbeat again. [3] Traveling to Chicago for our baby shower!

3 cons of this week: [1] Finding out that I have an abnormal shaped placenta. The doctor assured me that it’s nothing to worry about, but apparently my placenta is not a normal round disk shape. It’s sort of squished in the middle creating two blobs which can cause less nutrients to flow through the blood vessel to Emma. In turn, baby may be measuring small. I suspect that Hopkins didn’t mention this because Emma was measuring bigger than normal, but glad Duke decided to put it on my radar. One perk is that we get another ultrasound in a month to see our beautiful daughter 🙂 [2] Realizing traveling via plane is getting harder. [3] Having anxiety over the baby shower.

Looking forward to: Seeing all of our family and friends come together to celebrate Emma!

27 Weeks

Baby’s size: A Rutabaga – what is that?

Baby’s movement: Constant movements! I swear she is having a circus in there!

Total weight gain: 21 lbs!

Pregnancy symptoms: Same old.. leg cramps; pelvic pressure. Something new – Braxton Hicks contractions! It is definitely not pleasant and feels scary when my stomach gets ROCK HARD.

Food love: Nothing new this week.

Food hate: Nothing new!

Sleep: Sleep has been the same, not great.

Currently living in: Full on maternity clothes or loose fitting shift dresses!

Pro of this week: Celebrating baby Emma with our family and friends at our baby shower! It was so wonderful to see all of our loved ones. Thank you ALL for stopping by and for all of the thoughtful gifts! And major thanks to my sister who threw us the most gorgeous and fun baby shower! We are one lucky family!

3 cons of this week: [1] Having a short weekend trip to Chicago, wish we could have stayed longer! [2] Lots of emotions running high. [3] Having constant Braxton Hicks contractions!

Looking forward to: Nesting! I can’t wait to decorate Emma’s nursery!!

28 Weeks – I’m in my third trimester now!

Glucola drink for Glucose screening & tolerance test this week!

Glucola drink for Glucose screening & tolerance test this week!

Baby’s size: An eggplant!

Baby’s movement: I was told to start counting the movements starting week 28, but she moves so much that I lose count throughout the day.. Oops.

Total weight gain: 22 lbs!

Pregnancy symptoms: Braxton Hicks contractions are full blown. I get them throughout the day, multiple times a day. It’s kind of crazy. I’m also experiencing major indigestion lately..Steve thinks it’s because I eat a lot of chips after dinner… Hey, I gotta have what I crave!

Food love: Bananas! Loving them this week.

Food hate: Nothing new!

Sleep: Not great per usual. Also, whenever I change positions in my sleep, I get sharp pain in my pelvic/groin area! Oh the joy of round ligament pains.

Currently living in: Unless I’m out and about, I repeat the same maternity clothes at home.. Hey, girl’s gotta be comfy with this burgeoning belly!

3 pros of this week: [1] Starting on the nursery!! We finally got the nursery going, and our 2nd bedroom is looking more like a baby’s room than a storage room. We, Steve put the crib and glider chair together. I’ve already spent some time in the chair reading to Emma. Can’t wait for the rest of the nursery to come together! I’ll definitely do a nursery reveal post later! [2] HELLO TARGET’S DIAPER DEAL! Thanks to First Time Mommy Group on FB, I learned about an amazing diaper sale at Target. We literally drove to three different Targets in the area and stocked up on diapers in various sizes. I’m pretty sure we are covered for at least 9 months if not more. [3] At this week’s doctor’s appointment, I had glucose screening & tolerance test done. Despite what I’ve read from other mommies, the drink I had to drink was NOT bad at all! I actually kind of liked my orange flavored drink. Haha. Anyway, the result came back, and I am in the clear for gestational diabetes, in fact, my result was pretty low compared to the standard range. I was kind of surprised, because I swear I consumed A LOT more sugar than pre-pregnancy – remember all my fruit cravings?? Nonetheless, I’m glad that I’m having a healthy pregnancy thus far! Also at the doctor’s this week, I was told Emma has turned around, and her head is now down! We will confirm at next week’s ultrasound appointment, but based on where her heart is, the doctor said she is in the ideal position for vaginal delivery, and it is unlikely that she will turn to breech position at this stage. This explains why I’ve been feeling so much pressure down below!

3 cons of this week: [1] Feeling anxious (what else is new?) about how little time we have until Emma arrives! And what if she arrives earlier than her due date? We still have a lot to prepare for including finishing the nursery! We also want to take a babymoon trip and do a maternity photo shoot. So much to do, so little time! [2] Feeling like house chores are ballooning! I’m moving so slow lately that things I want to do around the house takes longer than usual. [3] Not having enough energy lately.

Looking forward to: Seeing our beautiful girl’s face again during our next week’s ultrasound appointment!

29 Weeks

July 22, 2015 - Emma @ 29 weeks and 4 days! It looks like she's smiling at us! So in love <3

July 22, 2015 – Emma @ 29 weeks and 4 days! It looks like she’s smiling at us! So in love ❤

Baby’s size: An acorn squash!

Baby’s movement: She moves throughout the day per usual, but her movements are consistent in the morning when I wake up and at night when I lay down to sleep. I look forward to it every day 🙂

Total weight gain: 24 lbs!

Pregnancy symptoms: Oh. My. Lord. The other day, I told Steve that by far, this pain I feel in my pubic/pelvic region is the worst of my pregnancy. It is most painful when I move to get out of the bed and when I switch positions at night. I feel like someone is punching my down there repeatedly. It’s awful!! I love you babygirl, but man, mama is having the toughest time dealing with this pain.

Food love: I swear pregnancy makes you have the weirdest cravings. Like my doughnut craving not too long ago, I had a sudden urge to eat brownies after seeing a picture. I say weirdest cravings, because I never ever eat brownies! I don’t even like chocolate, yet I could not live without them this week. I’m hoping it’s just a one time thing like it was with Krispy Kreme doughnuts…

Food hate: Nothing new!

Sleep: Awful. I always wake up at least once to go to the bathroom, and it’s so painful in my pelvic region to get out of bed or change positions during my sleep. 😦

Currently living in: Same comfy maternity clothes on repeat.

3 pros of this week: [1] Seeing Emma for the growth ultrasound appointment! I know, I know, all the mamas in the world think their baby is the cutest and I don’t blame them, because Emma is the cutest in my eyes! She has plumped up a bit since we last saw her, and I can’t stand her little nose and mouth!! [2] Confirming Emma is growing well and healthy! She’s actually measuring longer and weighing more than average! [3] Shopping for Emma’s clothes! It’s happening!!

3 cons of this week: [1] Having major pubic/pelvic pains. [2] Hot weather in NC, we don’t get to enjoy outdoors as much as we’d like because it’s so hot! [3] Having a lot of work and trying to keep up.

Looking forward to: Getting away for the weekend! We are planning on doing a short trip to a beach for our babymoon!

Second Trimester Recap

People weren’t kidding when they say second trimester is the best trimester! Although I’ve had relatively easy pregnancy thus far, second trimester was a breeze! I felt more energized, I worked out a bit more, and my hormones were pretty much balanced. Remember how I broke out like crazy in the first trimester? I also noticed that my food aversions and cravings were pretty much stable until I got closer to the third trimester. I’m only two weeks into third trimester now, but in my opinion, second trimester is the most fun period! You get to see what your baby looks like, you get to find out what you are having, you start feeling the baby, and it just starts to feel so much more real that you will soon have a little bundle of joy to hold in your arms! 🙂 I think it also felt more real for Steve, because he was able to feel Emma as well. Overall, I’m thankful for a smooth/easy pregnancy, and Steve and I can’t wait until the day Emma is born! Here’s to the last trimester! I bet it’s going to fly by!

Our Baby Shower – Celebrating Emma!

IMG_3894

Steve and I decided to have a co-ed baby shower in Chicago where majority of our friends and family live. And we are so glad we did, because we got to see a lot of them! Living afar, we don’t get to see them as often as we’d like, so not only was it a baby shower welcoming Emma to this world, but a chance for us to reconnect with our loved ones.

My sister, who also happens to live in Chicago planned and hosted the entire shower, and we cannot thank her enough for throwing us such a fun and gorgeous shower! It was held at a picnic shelter in a forest preserve, and the weather was perfect! We had delicious food (thanks to our moms), beautiful decorations and lots of fun games. Some of our friends brought their children and their pet who got to run around and enjoy the day just as much as we did. It was truly a family affair!

Our weekend in Chicago was short-lived, but we definitely had a blast. I’m sure Emma felt the love as well! 🙂 Thank you all for coming and for your thoughtful gifts! We really appreciate and love every single one of you! ❤ We now have less than 3 more months to go before Emma arrives, can’t wait to show her these pictures from the baby shower!

Pregnancy Update: 22 – 25 Weeks

22-25collage2

22 Weeks

Jun 1, 2015 - Emma @ 22 weeks & 2 days ultrasound

Jun 1, 2015 – Emma @ 22 weeks & 2 days ultrasound

Baby’s size: Papaya

Baby’s movement: Kicking and punching throughout the day!

Total weight gain: Not sure! I didn’t get to weigh myself in the middle of moving and all.

Pregnancy symptoms: Occasional hip pains and major indigestion!

Food love: I have never had Sour Patch Kids before, and I happened to come across it at the airport when travelling this week, so I tried it. And I liked it. I’ve also been eating a lot of string cheese..

Food hate: Nothing in particular. Still not liking hard-boiled eggs. It makes me wonder if I’ll ever go back to liking them.

Sleep: Still sleeping 5-7 hours per night.

Currently living in: Still my regular wardrobe!

3 pros of this week: [1] Being able to see Emma again during our follow-up anatomy scan. I swear her facial features have further developed since 2 weeks ago. [2] Sweet little surprise Steve had planned when we checked-in to our hotel room in Chicago for our 1 year wedding anniversary. [3] Moving rest of our things to NC! We are ALL moved-in and Steve is starting his new job next week 🙂

3 cons of this week: [1] Crappy weather this week! [2] Allergies! UGH! [3] The WORST return flight experience from Chicago. It was our first time flying Spirit for our return flight, and NEVER AGAIN.

Looking forward to: Exploring our new city!

23 Weeks

Baby’s size: Grapefruit

Baby’s movement: Tons! Her kicks/punches are getting harder too, strong baby girl 🙂

Total weight gain: 18 lbs!!! Holy mama!

Pregnancy symptoms: Major hip pains! Indigestion from time to time. Leg cramps!!

Food love: Nothing in particular other than the usual.

Food hate: Not much!

Sleep: Sleep’s eh, I’ve been waking up a lot in the middle of the night either to go to the bathroom or change my sleeping position.

Currently living in: I bought some maternity clothes!! And I’m on a hunt for more! A big reality check that even my shift dresses and maxi dresses are getting super tight in my tummy region.

3 pros of this week: [1] Steve’s first week of new job! [2] Productive weekend getting settled in our new home. [3] Feeling great about a fresh start.

3 cons of this week: This week’s been personally tough on so many levels, but I’m learning to move on and keep positive.

Looking forward to: Finding a new hospital/OB-GYN for myself and a pediatrician for Emma!

24 Weeks

Baby’s size: Cantaloupe!

Baby’s movement: I swear Emma recognizes her daddy’s voice. Steve’s been in NC by himself last week while I tied up loose ends in Baltimore. When we finally reunited, of course he immediately went for my belly to start talking to Emma. As soon as she heard his voice, she started moving like crazy! We’d like to believe that she missed her daddy’s voice for the past week 🙂

Total weight gain: Still at 18 lbs.

Pregnancy symptoms: Hip pains; waddling – yes, I see why people start to waddle as their belly gets bigger; leg cramps.

Food love: Nothing in particular other than the usual.

Food hate: Nothing in particular.

Sleep: Sleep is getting worse. I wake up multiple times a night and before my alarm goes off every morning. I’m averaging about 5 hours of sleep each night 😦

Currently living in: Holy, it is H-O-T in NC. At one point, it went up 112 degrees over the weekend. I’m living in loose, flowy dresses to adjust to the heat. And you all know heat and I do not go well together..

3 pros of this week: [1] We are almost settled in our new place! We have a few boxes for my office to unpack and lots of wall decor to put up, but our new home is coming together! [2] We went shopping for Emma for the very first time! We got some essential onesies for newborns and the cutest chambray shirt and cardigan!! There are so many adorable clothes for baby girls, I’m in trouble! [3] Reuniting with Steve, it’s always tough being away from each other for several days or more, but it was especially hard not being with him last week. Super glad to be reunited with my family.

3 cons of this week: Can’t think of anything except the heat.. I’m not sure how I’m going to survive this Summer.

Looking forward to: Exploring more of our new state!

25 Weeks

IMG_3820

I am in love with my growing baby bump! ❤

Baby’s size: Cauliflower!

Baby’s movement: Emma moves throughout the day when I’m sitting and working, as soon as I get up and move around, her movements stop..or maybe I’m just feeling less of it since I’m active. I did notice that she is most active in the mornings and evenings. She also likes to move when I play music, feels like she’s moving with the beats LOL!

Total weight gain: 20 lbs!

Pregnancy symptoms: Same old – hip pains; leg cramps. My feet are starting to swell a bit when I walk around a lot. It could also be the heat.

Food love: I’ve been eating a lot of watermelon these days.. SO GOOD! Also, thank the lord for OJ!! I think I mentioned it in previous pregnancy update post, but I am obsessed with orange juice lately! I’ve never been an OJ drinker, but man, I’m gulping it down every single day! Lastly, we found a Vietnamese restaurant half a mile from our place, and they have bahn mi sandwiches (I’ve been deprived of bahn mi sandwiches in Baltimore)!! We know where I’ll be spending my summer. 😉

Food hate: Nothing in particular, still not eating hard-boiled eggs.

Sleep: It’s gotten a little better this week.. I didn’t wake up as much during the night.

Currently living in: I finally purchased maternity clothes from ASOS and GAP Maternity! Maternity clothes are on a roll these days!

3 pros of this week: [1] Finally transferring all my medical records from Hopkins to Duke and setting up my first appointment at Duke next week! [2] Officially becoming North Carolinians!! We got our licenses, title and registration of our car changed! [3] Finding out H-Mart (a huge Korean grocery store chain in U.S.) will be coming to town within the year. This is HUGE! We’ve scoped out one Korean market here which is small, nothing compared to what we are used to in Chicago and Maryland. Although, I’m used to having just one small Korean grocer in town, because that’s what I grew up with in Richmond, Chicago and Maryland spoiled me! I need my H-Mart!

3 cons of this week: [1] Missing my coworkers in the office. This was my second full week of working remotely, and I’m finding it kinda hard to adjust not being in the office. [2] Wanting to be in SF with my two bffs who are having lots of fun without me! 😦 [3] Reality check that I should make some friends here…but how? Mommy groups?

Looking forward to: Our baby shower next weekend!!!!! SO EXCITED to see all of our family and friends to celebrate Emma! ❤

Our Jelly Belly is a…

IMG_3683-2

GIRL!!!!!

The suspense is O-V-E-R, we are having a little princess!!! Steve and I are beyond ecstatic for this news. We couldn’t sleep the night before our anatomy scan because we were too anxious to find out what we were having. After patiently waiting for the ultrasound tech to check different parts of Jelly Belly (everything looked great and she is healthy!), she finally got a clear shot of her private part and confirmed that we are having a girl. I gotta be honest, as soon as she said, “it’s a girl!”, I choked then turned to Steve to say, “we are having a GIRL!!” I could tell he was overjoyed with a huge grin on his face. He’s been hoping for a girl, so you can imagine how happy and excited he was to find out he will have a little daddy’s girl. I swear, she is going to suck all the love out of him 😉 I did tell him that he CANNOT forget about his FIRST girl, ME! LOL. But look at this happiest daddy in the world!
