Finally! A very belated honeymoon post! Well, at least part one. 😉
Before I share the highlights of our trip, I have to start by praising my husband, who took it upon himself to plan the ENTIRE honeymoon. God bless this man. I mean, if you ever saw our Google Docs of spreadsheets and maps, you’d think he’s the crazy planner and not me. I happily pass on my throne of planning to him, because he totally deserves it! I did not have to worry about a thing, except for what I’m going to eat and wear. And let me tell ya, it was absolutely heavenly. No anxiety whatsoever. So thank you, Babe! You are truly the best!
With that said, we had the time of our lives! We didn’t even bicker for two straight weeks, well maybe once..but the point is, it was nothing but blissful. 🙂 Our honeymoon started with a quick pit stop in London where we purposely arranged a 12 hour layover at Heathrow airport for a quick London tour before heading to Italy. It’s super easy to get to the city of London from Heathrow airport via the Tube, but I was pleasantly surprised how quickly we got out of the airport with border control and all. It could be that we arrived before 7 AM, and the rush wasn’t there. Nevertheless, can’t complain, because we had more time in the city than we thought we would! We were able to see major landmarks, and do the tour of Westminster Abbey which I didn’t get to do when I was in London two years ago. I’m not gonna lie, we were exhausted from the flight and the time difference, but we were so pumped! A double shot of espresso also helped as soon as we got off the Tube. But clumsy me, I spilled espresso on my cream sweater after a few sips. And since London was a pit stop, I didn’t have anything to change into, so I walked around with a huge brown stain on my sleeve all day..Lol.
Anyway, London was short lived and tiring, but we are super glad Steve got to experience it. Then off we went to Italy! Our first stop in Italy was Rome where we spent 5 days including Christmas! We arrived pretty late into the night but managed to score some delicious pizza before we went to sleep, thanks to our local Roman 🙂 Lucky for us, our friend from the states was visiting her boyfriend in Rome at the same time, so we had a couple of days of true Roman experience. On our second night, with our Italian friends, we escaped Rome for a hot springs experience about hour and a half outside of the city. After the hot springs, we ate this amazing rolled up pizza with prosciutto on top called Rotolo at Pizzeria Lo Sfizio. If you are ever in the area, it is a must! I still vividly remember the first bite I took..drools. On the eve of Christmas, we toured the Vatican City including the Vatican Museum and St. Peter’s Basilica, very fitting, I know. We had every intention of seeing Pope’s Christmas mass in St. Peter’s Square, but we were both so exhausted, we called it a night early. Don’t judge, we made an effort to stay out as long as we could. Maybe next time..another reason to revisit Italy. 😉 Now, Christmas… our Christmas was truly an once in a lifetime experience! Our friend from the states invited us to her friend’s family lunch. We had a 5 course, proper Italian Christmas lunch which lasted 4 hours. It was chaotic – three generations of people talking over each other, loud, yelling, laughing, speaking Italian which we did not understand, then translating to English so we could understand.. But it was absolutely amazing, and we loved everything about the chaos! It was perfect to have had spent our first Christmas as a husband and wife with a big, loving family. I couldn’t help but daydream about how this is what our family will look like in 30 years, and that made my heart warm.
Rest of our Rome trip was amazing visiting all the churches, small and big, hitting all the landmarks, and having gluttony of salivating Roman food. You can never complain about eating endless pizzas (must check out Zizzi Pizza in Rome), paninis, pasta and drinking wine at all times of the day! Here are some of my favorite pictures from London & Rome.
Stay tuned for Part II, Tuscany!
